What We've Done So Far
- Detailed discussions with the Department of Enterprise and Investment and the Crown Estate (which has responsibility for managing coastal waters).
- Site selection along Northern Ireland coastline including ranking of sites against criteria:
- Potential for >100MW
- Water depth
- Environmental impact
- Engineering / technical challenge
- Operation and maintenance accessability
- Assessment of technologies.
- Commenced consultation on scope of Environmental Impact Assessment.
The Technologies
The Thetis project will utilise world leading technology that is most appropriate for the site. Like most technologies, tidal stream technology is constantly evolving and improving. Thetis will seek to find the most appropriate technology for the site and will determine this after it has fully understood the physical and environmental characteristics of the site following site investigation.
